IEFTF at Cannes 2026: Supporting Filmmakers, Building Community and Celebrating New Voices

The 2026 Cannes Film Festival and Marché du Film once again offered an inspiring platform for collaboration, discovery and meaningful exchange. Throughout the festival, IEFTF was proud to support and participate in a range of initiatives that reflected our ongoing mission to champion emerging filmmakers, encourage cultural dialogue and help bring important stories to audiences worldwide.

From audience development and industry networking to documentary support and international solidarity, Cannes 2026 highlighted the power of cinema to connect communities across borders.

African & Diasporic Audience Development Think Tank

One of the highlights of the week was IEFTF’s support of the  Nomadic Film Space’s African & Diasporic Audience Development Think Tank, an inspiring initiative that brought together filmmakers, festivals and industry professionals to explore new approaches to audience development, community building and meaningful engagement with audiences.

The discussions generated significant interest throughout Cannes and reinforced the importance of creating meaningful connections between filmmakers and the audiences they serve. The event provided a valuable space for sharing ideas, challenges and strategies for building sustainable and engaged film communities across the African continent and the global diaspora.

Celebrating Arab Cinema at the Arab Critics’ Choice Awards

IEFTF was delighted to collaborate with the Arab Cinema Center on the reception celebrating the Arab Critics’ Choice Awards.

The gathering recognised outstanding achievements in Arab cinema while bringing together filmmakers, critics, producers and industry professionals from across the region and beyond. The event highlighted the continued growth and international impact of Arab storytelling and provided an important opportunity for networking, collaboration and celebration within the global film community.

Spotlight on Sudan Solidarity Event

In partnership with the Palestine Film Institute, IEFTF was honoured to support the Spotlight on Sudan Solidarity Event, which brought together filmmakers, artists and allies in a powerful expression of support for Sudanese storytellers and creatives.

The gathering underscored the vital role cinema plays in preserving cultural memory, amplifying underrepresented voices and fostering international understanding. It also served as a reminder of the importance of standing alongside filmmakers working under challenging circumstances and ensuring their stories continue to be heard.

IEFTF €10,000 CASH AWARD PRESENTED AT CANNES DOCS

Supporting documentary filmmakers remains a cornerstone of IEFTF’s work, and we were proud to present the annual IEFTF €10,000 Cash Award at the Cannes Docs in Progress Showcase.

This year’s award was presented to Super Sila, directed by Mohammed Alshareef, a project participating in the Palestinian Showcase. The award is designed to support filmmakers at a critical stage in their project’s development and reflects IEFTF’s ongoing commitment to helping powerful documentary stories reach audiences around the world.

Supporting the Inaugural Cannes Docs Party

IEFTF was also pleased to collaborate with Cannes Docs on the inaugural Cannes Docs Party, held on the final day of Doc Day during the Marché du Film.

The event brought together documentary filmmakers, industry professionals and supporters from across the international documentary community in a relaxed and celebratory atmosphere. It provided an opportunity to strengthen relationships, foster new connections and celebrate the vibrant documentary ecosystem that continues to thrive at Cannes.

As always, Cannes served as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved through collaboration, community and a shared commitment to storytelling. We are deeply grateful to our partners, friends and colleagues who helped make these events possible, and we look forward to building on these conversations and collaborations throughout the year ahead as we continue supporting the next generation of filmmakers around the world.
